PCS-Coding Rules

In this phase, JAPE rules has been written by us for getting procedure coding related terms and context which are most useful in procedure coding.

Handled Procedures List:

Procedure Description:

  1. Arthroplasty- A surgical procedure to restore the integrity and function of a joint

    • Knee Arthoplasty
    • Hip Arthoplasty
    • Shoulder Arthoplasty
    • Hemi-Arthoplasty

  2. CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting)- A type of surgery that improves blood flow to the heart.

    1. Evaluate count of coronary arteries(n), participated under bypass grafting
      • 1 for left internal mammary artery (02100Z9)
      • (n-1) coronary arteries were participated (021)
    2. Cardiopulmonary bypass (5A1221Z)
    3. Endarterectomy (02C)
    4. Saphenous veins harvesting (06B)
    5. Chest tubes placement (0W9)
    6. Femoral artery placement (04H)
    7. Incision and Drainage- A minor surgical procedure to release pus or pressure built up under the skin, such as from an abscess, boil, or infected paranasal sinus
    8. Skin Levels:
      • Skin and Breast(0H9)
      • Subcutaneous Tissue and Fascia(0J9)
      • Muscles(0K9)
      • Tendons(0L9)
      • Bursae and Ligaments(0M9)
      • Head and Facial Bones(0N9)

  3. Debridement- The medical removal of dead, damaged, or infected tissue to improve the healing potential of the remaining healthy tissue

  4. Female Reproduction System
    • Hysterectomy- A surgery to remove a woman's uterus/Womb
    • Salpingectomy- The surgical removal of a Fallopian tube
    • oophorectomy- The removal of the ovaries
    • Salpingo-oophorectomy- The surgical removal of a Fallopian tube and ovaries
  5. PTCA- A procedure used to open the blocked or narrowed coronary artery and to restore arterial blood flow to the heart
  6. PTA- A procedure used to open the blocked or narrowed femoral artery and to restore arterial blood flow to the lower leg without open vascular surgery
  7. Thrombectomy- A surgical removal of a thrombus from a blood vessel
  8. Annuloplasty- A surgical mitral valve repair
